A big part of enjoying memes is realizing that, more often than not, the format of the meme itself usually isn't the main attraction (unless it's one of those types of memes that goes crazy viral and gets reproduced everywhere for a couple of days). It's really about the message that this particular package is used to contain, the tiny hit of dopamine we get from looking at something funny or relatable when we probably should be doing something else. Meme-scrolling is something both central and on the fringes of 21st-century life, and some might argue that it is one of the best parts. Sure, it's digital junk food, but it delivers a hollow sort of happiness that keeps us coming back for more. It's no different from any other mildly addictive indulgence, except this one isn't harmful in moderation. This list is a perfect example: it offers a little structure to our structured soundbites of internet entertainment.
